The future of education is here, are you ready?
As we face the end of the 2020/2021 school year, many words come to mind to describe it. The word that XtraMath has focused on is innovation.
Because of the massive disruption to education that we have faced, the standard model has been forced to change, to innovate on how we teach and how kids learn.
2020 was a year that forced us to explore new ways of learning, and for XtraMath, it was a year of growth, challenges, and ideation. We are looking forward to the next school year and what the future brings for education.
Education is no longer only associated with the traditional classroom. The learning process now tends to leverage EdTech solutions like online education programs, online classes, and learning management systems that make education more effective and accessible. It is no wonder why this industry is expected to reach $375 billion by 2026.
As we look to the future, here are a couple trends we see:
Trend #1. Massive transition to eLearning
E-learning, which is not necessarily the same as distance learning, is using educational materials through digital technologies (smartphone, tablets, etc.).
E-learning is very scalable and allows educators to reach more students at the same time or at times that create a better learning environment for the student. By investing in programs that provide this service, schools and educators can make learning more accessible and balanced.
Trend #2. Subscription-based learning
Subscription-based learning has rapidly evolved and is increasingly accepted by school districts and educators.
The subscription model gives a school district full access to materials that can easily be implemented in the classroom and augment the current curriculum. It is a great instrument that gives kids the tools to learn independently and at their own pace when success can occur.
A great example is Masterclass, a streaming platform with education courses for every interest and hobby. The recent success of this platform is evidence that people like to learn online, in their own environment and at their own learning capacity.
Trend #3. STEM education will be in every curriculum
The current explosion of STEM programs is born from practicality. College costs are soaring, kids have an innate interest in science, technology, engineering, and math and in creating, testing, and making decisions. Schools that focus on STEM or include it in a curriculum have seen higher enrollment and testing scores.
STEM is effective in:
· Improving students’ learning outcomes and achievements
· Student motivation, attitude, and problem-solving skills
· Closing skill gaps
· Improving student engagement
The EdTech landscape analysis shows that these and other trends will continue to evolve. The pandemic caused an extreme growth in demand for educational technology tools of all kinds. These trends will set the pace in the EdTech industry for many years to come.
But how will modern technologies change the way we teach and learn in the near future? We’re excited to help schools, teachers and students discover that.
